Frequently asked questions

If you have a question about your appointment or aren't sure whether physiotherapy at Embody is right for you, you may find the answer below.

If you can't find what you're looking for, please get in touch and I'd be happy to discuss your needs before you book.

What should I expect for my first pelvic health appointment?

Initial appointments are designed to provide a calm, supportive space where you can discuss your symptoms, concerns and goals openly and comfortably.

Your appointment will begin with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, exercise and any factors that may be affecting your health. This helps me develop a full understanding of your individual needs.

A physical assessment may then be recommended depending on your symptoms and the reason for your appointment. The assessment will be tailored to you and may include looking at movement, posture, breathing, strength, function, swelling, scars or other relevant areas.

For pelvic health appointments, an internal vaginal or ano-rectal examination may be offered where clinically appropriate. This is always optional and will only take place with your full, informed consent. Everything will be explained clearly beforehand and you can ask questions at any time.

For more information, please visit the Pelvic Health Physiotherapy page.

How long are appointments?

Initial consultations for all treatment areas are 60 minutes.

This allows enough time to take a detailed history, carry out an appropriate assessment and begin treatment where suitable.

We can discuss the most appropriate follow-up appointments for you based on your assessment, symptoms and goals.

What if I'm not sure if you can help me?

That's absolutely fine. You don't need to know exactly what treatment you need before contacting me.

If you complete the contact form, I'll aim to get back to you within 48 hours. We can discuss your symptoms, any questions you have and whether an appointment at Embody would be appropriate for you.

I understand that the conditions I treat can be very personal, and I want you to feel comfortable asking questions before deciding whether to book.

Do I need a GP referral for an appointment?

No, you don't need a GP referral to make an appointment for private physiotherapy at Embody.

You can contact me directly to arrange an appointment.

If, during your assessment or treatment, I have concerns about your health or feel that further medical assessment would be appropriate, I will discuss this with you and recommend the appropriate next steps.

Can I contact you before booking?

Absolutely.

If you're unsure whether your symptoms are something I can help with, or you have questions about what an appointment involves, please get in touch.

I'm happy to discuss your concerns before you decide whether to book.

What should I wear?

For pelvic health concerns you can wear anything that you are comfortable in. If an internal examination is appropriate for you then clothing on your lower half that is easy to get on and off might be helpful but not essential.

For breast cancer and lymphoedema a vest top can be really helpful to allow full access to your arm and armpit.

For scar therapy loose clothing around the area of the scar can be helpful.

But don't worry, towels can be provided to cover you up and retain your modesty.

How many appointments will I need?

This is very individual and we can discuss this at your initial appointment. Multiple sessions may be required for lymphoedema management especially multi-layer bandaging and scar therapy.

How do I pay?

Card payments are preferred, although cash payments are also accepted.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, of course.

This is your appointment and you should feel as comfortable as possible. You are welcome to bring a friend, partner or family member with you if this would make you feel more at ease.

If you are bringing someone with you, please let me know beforehand where possible.

Where is Embody Physiotherapy and Lymphatic Care?
